"Unveiling Science Wonders: Our Trip to the National Science Center"
“Our world is built on biology and once we begin to understand it, it then becomes a technology.” - Ryan Bethencourt.
An educational visit to the National Science Center was organized by our school for Classes VIII & IX on the 31st of August 2023. This excursion was nothing short of enlightening, allowing students to discover and nurture their interests. A dynamic two-hour workshop awaited the students, with Class VIII engaging in robotics and Class IX diving into biology practicals. Excitement filled the air as students collaborated in groups to craft mechanical cars, culminating in a thrilling race to determine the speediest creation. The biology segment had students brimming with enthusiasm as they explored the intricacies of lab equipment and techniques. Inside the center, a tapestry of exhibits showcased diverse scientific concepts, renowned scientists, and insights into human life, encompassing its elements, acids, viruses, and more. Among the array of topics, students were particularly captivated by: Amino Acids: The Building Blocks of Life, Elements and the Chain of Life, Vital Supply Lines: Arteries and Veins, Blood - The Lifeline, The Marvels of the Nervous System and Unraveling the Secrets of the Hormonal System. In the BioTech Lab, a hands-on activity saw students extracting DNA from their cheek cells, learning four crucial steps: cell harvest, cell lysis, protein digestion, and cell precipitation. They also familiarized themselves with essential lab equipment like centrifuges, pipettes, and vortex machines. This National Science Center visit served as a vital introduction to laboratory experiments, laying the foundation for future learning.
